MR NK

“All The Way, Not Half The Way”

Mr NK met a young man with whom he became close friends after meeting in 2005. Mr NK LATER selected the young man as part of his vision because of his lyrical, creative and positive nature. Together they embarked on an innovative and imaginative journey to create the lyrics to the Tunes Times Tables. They wrote the rhymes for the 8 times table first — and the rest is history!

OUR STORY

Pride of Britain Winner 2013
Guinness World Records Holder 2010

Greetings and welcome to Tunes Times Tables! My name is Mr NK, and I learned my times tables at the age of 29. Let me tell you how and why: Between 2002 and 2004, I was employed as a learning mentor in a local primary school where I observed children in the classroom reciting their times tables with no life, energy or enthusiasm.  I saw so many of them struggle, and the more frustrated they got, the more they tuned out and eventually gave up. Does this ring any bells?

I remember one pupil in particular who challenged me one day by asking, “what is 8 x 8?” I was stumped and unable to provide an immediate answer. When I got home that day, I asked my son (who was eight at the time) the same question, but he couldn’t answer either.

This inspired me to make a change. I was determined to find a way of mastering multiplication and confidently teaching times tables with the enthusiasm that the classroom was lacking. I felt there had to be a way to get children excited about learning their times tables; a way that’s cool, innovative, quick, easy, and most importantly, fun! Most importantly, I wanted to find a way that would stay with them for the rest of their lives.

“I want to ensure that every child in the UK has access to the Tunes Times Tables and can to enjoy learning multiplication in a fun way.” – Mr NK

The Tunes Times Tables format is a creative, dynamic, effective and memorable method of teaching multiplication. We teach adults and children times tables through the power of rhymes, music and performance poetry. We understand that as people, we are all highly influenced by music and Mr NK uses this to his advantage.  Let’s face it: for most of us, times tables are a difficult subject that very few have truly mastered. If you don't understand the basics as a child, then most likely, you will struggle to have a firm grasp of the mathematical principles as an adult.

Mr NK introduces songs with mathematical lyrics that are fun and memorable. He also uses creative choreography to assist in the learning experience.

The rhymes are as easy as learning a song in the pop charts, and the accompanying actions form a dance routine that the class can do together.

We increase confidence and get learners excited about multiplication without the use of paper, pens or desks. It’s pure interactive learning.
